Closet Remix: How to wear 10 pieces 20 different ways

Happy Thursday! I finally got my act together to bring you another closet remix post. This time I opting for the 10 pieces 20 different ways challenge.  Right after fashion week, I’ve made the decision to get rid of half of my closet. Yes, half of my closet. I know someone asked me over on Instagram if I wanted to sell my clothes. I wanted to, but then again at this point I just do not have the time nor the energy to do a sale. Half of the clothes already went to the Salvation Army, and the other half is sitting in a suitcase waiting for my sister to pick up (lucky girl !).

I have a lot, I mean a lot of clothes. Lately, I have been overwhelmed with my dressing room. There were clothes too small, out of date, or simply sitting there with tags.I realized that I am actually more in love with the idea of a full closet than what is actually there. I want to start fresh. Letting go was not easy, but I had to. My style has changed within the last few years and some of these items no longer fit my personal style. Now, I can almost see everything I own.

I took the 30×30 outfits challenge last Fall. It’s one of the most viewed, if not the most viewed posts on my blog. Most people care more about a functional closet than a glamorous one. By functional, I mean standing in front of your closet and being able to put outfits together without over thinking. I believe that plus size capsule wardrobe  posts are the most viewed because women of all ages and sizes can relate to the way I mixed the items. I bet you most of them likely have the same items in their closet already. In the Pinterest age most bloggers look like they just finished shooting a lookbook for Zara, but truth be to told most of us live and dress just like everyone else.

How To maximize your wardrobe

I want to share a few tips with you on how I maximize my wardrobe. Obviously I am not the first blogger to do this. There are thousands of blogs out there with remixing posts. I learnt so much from blogs like Js’ everyday. When you remix your clothes the first thing you’ll learn is that less is more. The 30×30 outfits challenge was a good challenge, but not challenging enough, so this time I tried  10 items 20 ways (accessories not included). Here are a few things to keep in mind while remixing:

Accessorizing

Accessories are your best friend when it comes to maximizing your wardrobe. They’ll make you stand out.

Shoes

Shoes are one of those items that can dramatically change your outfit. They’ll take your look from casual to dressy and or from work to play.

Scarves

Scarves can be worn on dresses, sweaters, shirts and are the perfect accessories to add color to your wardrobe.

Belts/Hats

Belts are always are great good to have, especially on days you want to accentuate your waist. This coat came without a belt, adding one to it was so necessary. Fall outfits are never complete without a dramatic hat ( insert smiley face)

Color Coordination

In order to have a cohesive wardrobe (or capsule wardrobe), colour coordinating is a must.  Working with one color palette ensures that your mixing and matching is completed easily.  In the outfits below, you’ll notice that I am wearing a lot of blues (dark blue). Blue works with pink, green grey and black.

Basics

Basics (stripes shirts, jeans, blazers, cardigans, neutral colours etc……) are the real MVPs of any wardrobe.

 Planning

I am not one of those people that can just sit and easily put clothes together. I have to think about it and plan it. Not everyone has the time to sit and do an outfit planning session, but believe me it will take away the ” I don’t have anything to wear” out of your vocabulary. Every time I put an outfit together I photograph with my phone for future references.

Confidence

Finally, The last tip I’ll give you is to have fun with your clothes and most importantly wear things that make you feel beautiful.

I love every outfit! Especially the ones with that green pencil skirt. It's not fair how great you look in bright, bold colors! Seriously, amazing! I love posts like this. I always feel like I need more items in my closet, but you're able to show that even with just a few items there are SO many possibilities! Thanks for the inspiration.
