The things we do for fashion ” My Phillip Lim for Target shopping story”

Yes, the things we do for fashion, like waking up very early in the morning hoping to score a few items from the Phillip lim for Target collection. I said thank you to Target for giving the opportunity to a broke girl like me to wear something designed by Phillip lim.Now that I got that out of the way , let’s talk about my little shopping experience.

I woke up Sunday morning with a huge migraine, and yet that would not stop me from getting ready and hitting the road. With the help of  some Tylenol, I was able to finally get out the house and got to the store right on time. Before I left the house I was telling myself ” I live in a small town , and I am sure no one really cares about  Phillip lim“. I guess I was wrong because when I got there , there was about 30 people on the line already. I was still not worried because  80% of those in front of me were men, so they won’t most likely be interested in dresses or purses. I was WRONG. As soon as the doors opened these men ran in the store and literally picked up the purses by 10s. I swear within 10 seconds all the purses were gone. I stood there mouth opened looking around and asking myself “what just happened ?”Anyways I proceeded to go grab a few clothes to try and this animal print dress was one of them. Now you might be wondering , If you could not get a single purse then where the heck did you get the one you are carrying in this post ?

Dress, Bag: 3.1 Phillip lim for Target | Blazer: Forever21+ | Shoes: GoJane | Sunnies: Ebay | lipstick: Wet’n wild 911D

Although I was disappointed for missing out on all the goodies, while making my purchase , one of the managers told me that there is a store about 20 minutes from us that had a few purses left. I was not about to drive all the way there only to be told that they are all gone again. I went home , took care of my business but kept thinking to myself what if ? what if ? what if ? I finally decided to try one last time and drove to the next town and guess what ? they still had some purses left at that time of the day. Everything I got was given to me by  someone who changed their mind about purchasing the item. I hold on to as many as I could and started sorting them out. I ended up home with 4 purses because this girl right here ^^^^^ could not decide which ones to keep. As I am typing this post the last 3 unused purses are staring at me and each one is telling me “keep me ! Keep me ! no keep me !. Now I wish I just stayed home and  had never went back to Target. I am glad  I got some stuff but seriously this whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Please remind me not to ever ever feed into this kind of fashion hype again. Target should really have some kind of restrictions on how many items you can buy at once, but then again they are in the business of making money. What is your take ? don’t be shy please share how you really feel about all the high end designers collaboration with Target or H&M ? Did you go shopping on Sunday ? did you get anything ? Are you one of those who really don’t care ? comment below.PS: I love the dress, it has a lot of stretch. I am wearing an Xl. The dress looks and feels just like any $30 dress would.I won’t recommend putting it in the washer it might just wash out.

I absolutely love the entire look on you…Absolutely gorgeous…I was just too lazy to go into Target on Sunday loll…However, there were some items I really wanted from the collection, but they were all sold out online:(….Geez, those men you met at Target were probably buying to sell those items on ebay for ridiculous prices..loll…..
PS. I love fashion designer collabs with Target, even though I hate the mayhem 🙂

You look great in that outfit! did really well with the launch keeping people from buying too many things (I think that there was a 3 of each limit with only 5 different styles allowed) and they blocked international IP addresses. I know this because I was blocked from the launch on my computers. Not gonna lie, I'm really upset because I'm a pretty active Target customer that has a US military address. I missed all of the bags and didn't want to take a chance on the clothing not fitting me, so I was unable to get anything. I might see if my mom goes to her local Target to check if there's any bags left, but probably not. I'm kind of glad that I'm on an overseas military base right now so I don't have any way to go into a physical Target. I hate big hypes and having to deal with people going nuts or taking the time to travel somewhere only to be disappointed.
Wow. Sorry for all of the ramble! I am really glad that all of the bloggers that I follow were able to get mostly everything that they all wanted though! Thank you for sharing your experience.

OMG you are not rambling at all.Now I am feeling really bad. Here i am sitting here with 4 bags and not even able to choose and you could not even get on the site sheeezzzzzzzzz !!!! Seriously your mother should go in about two weeks I am sure there will be a lot of returns at that time. That's how I got mines because someone just changed their mind about theirs and gave it to me. Thank you for your insightful comment.

Wow what an awful experience!! I was irritated myself at the fact that Target didn't have a designated launch time. That's why I chose to shop online – the whole in person shopping experience with these designer collabs are AWFUL! I did go to a Target north of me later that day and only the men's items were gone….guess there are some seriously stylish men living in the country (I live in about 30 miles south of the Georgia line – there is nothing but good old boys out here!).

Lol , yes I guess there must be some stylish men around your area or men just love Phillip lim in general. I am hoping that target will launch their website here in Canada very soon , so I won't have to drag myself to the store. Thanks for stopping by luv !

You are really one lucky lady – I am happy you got all the items you managed to get – everyone has been going nuts about this launch, I can see why – you look amazing, that print on this dress is very nice and fits nicely on you – Enjoy all of them and don't return nothing, lol

Thank you Thulisa. I was very lucky for sure. I am still deciding if I am going to keep them all .

I'm sorry you had such a horrible experience with a migraine and all. If for anything, that dress looks great on you with the bag. I liked the bags and think it looks similar to his original bags of that style going for about $900 (well as similar as it can be for the price right?:) Anyway, I think your experience would not have been as bad if that target in your town had followed target's policy which I'd heard restricted how many one can buy at a time because you know they are just reselling it for more online. When you pop in there again, speak to the manager so it does not happen for future launches. I made it to mine right before it opened too with about 10 in line, was able to get what I wanted from what they had, and when I left there were extras but I heard later sold out. Anyway, hope your next experience is better and don't let those ruin it for you!

      Hey Yvonne,

I know we spoke on Instagram before so thank you for making your way here. You were among the lucky ones. Honestly some stores were untouched for hours until people started hearing about them. I will make sure I let the manager know because I assumed that they are in the business of making money therefore they would not really care how many you buy. It's sad that people are selling them online for triple the price.

First of all, I commend you for venturing out. I had an almost similar experience when Missoni set up a pop up store by Bryant Park in NYC. I am constantly reminding myself, that there will always be things I want, always. Something else that I find to be quite troubling is how such events just bring out the worst in people. Oh well, on the positive end of things, you look lovely and maybe, just maybe you'll let me borrow that bag. 🙂

Lol girl I read about the Missoni fiasco and I will let you borrow the bag anytime 🙂

Cute dress and you got lucky with the bags. 🙂 I like when lower end chains collaborate with higher end designers. It's cool. But I also don't want to be wearing the exact same thing as someone else.

Unfortunately there's no Target here, so no Philip Lim pieces.. 🙁

Ciaa you are looking FIERCE in this dress. The blazer and structured tote adds a touch of sophistication so that the leopard doesn't run too wild but you look like you are going to take over the world! Marvelous. (Now lets hope it doesnt run wild when you wash it huh?)

I am fond of the Target's designer collaborations and love getting a piece or two from each but after the Missoni collaboration I vowed never to shop in stores again and only online. The Missoni collab was like what you experienced – survival of the most greedy. No thank you. It works out for the best though because I am a night person and I am usually up when things are slowly (like dial-up slow!) released. I can't believe there were already 30 people in front of you and sad that it was men clamoring for the bags, not because they are men but because they are more than likely planning to resell them at a marked up price. I'm glad you got your bags though, in addition to this one which other ones did you get?

I hope you don't mind but I linked to you in my most recent entry with my 3.1 Phillip Lim piece, your confidence and fierceness is contagious =D

Well, first of all thank you so much for stopping by and also link this post on your blog. I really appreciate your sweet and honest comment. I have heard of the Missoni Saga and I think I got my fair share of the drama this time. Next time , I think I will wait until the fever is over and stop by the store to get me something.
