Healthy Lawn with Scotts® Lawn Response 9-1-1

Guess who is going to get down and get dirty this summer? Apparently not me. When my husband asked me to come help him clear our backyard to get ready for summer gardening this is how I showed up. Oh yes! Even backyard work has to be done in style.

We’ve been trying to get our back and front yards lawn awesomely lush and green for a while now. It’s safe to say that we’ve made a considerable amount of mistakes along the way. Summer is getting closer and it’ll soon be time to get down with the lawn. We’ve had some time to get ready and plan things out. Over the next couple of posts, we’ll be documenting our efforts along the way and hope that you’ll take the journey with us (husband and I)  and possibly share some of your results as well.

You may be thinking, isn’t this a little out of your league? Wrong. I want to be part of any project that will make our house more beautiful and our lawn and the whole landscaping is part of that. To bring you this content, we’ve partnered exclusively with Scotts® Miracle-Gro®. We will be using some of their products to help with our endeavors.

 Where are we now?

Here is the current state of our backyard.

 

About 2 years ago, our lawn was green and lush… with a couple of spots where weeds kept growing. It really wasn’t bad at all. Not knowing as much about lawn care as we do now, we went ahead and applied all sorts of weed killers instead of trying to see the area that was affected. Most of those weed killers didn’t work for us. We finally decided to get a product that kills all sorts of vegetation. It works wonderfully, within days. The weeds we spent so much time fighting were gone.

Sadly, along with the weeds, a small area around each spot where we sprayed the product turned up completely killed all vegetation. We now had a few of those on our hand. With the patches, we tried to seed some grass. Our attempts have failed multiple times because the soil wasn’t ready. Seeing that and still not knowing how grass works, we decided to reboot our lawn and applied the product to the whole backyard.

By now you are likely thinking we weren’t very smart and I would have to agree. The vegetation killer made it impossible to get any grass in the backyard for the rest of summer.

The following year we went back to the drawing board. We read a lot and decided to reseed the backyard. A season later, we’re now in 2017 with the current state of affairs.

What we need- Scotts® Lawn Response 9-1-1

We need a product that is going to turn this thin and weak grass into something healthy and green. The Scotts® Lawn Response 9-1-1 is supposed to do just that. It contains three elements that are all vital for a growth of a healthy and thick grass

• Seed: We need that to grow a durable, thick grass that helps crowd out weeds
• Fertilizer: Will improve seed establishment and rooting
• Soil Enhancers: will help improve our soil structure

Now that we have the product we need, our first step will be to aerate and cover the floor with the seeds using our Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Broadcast Spreader.
