This post has been in-demand ever since I collaborated with World Vision Canada to promote World Day against child labor last year. Every now and then, I get an email begging me to finally fulfill my promise to share the best plus size ethical and eco-friendly brands available in North America and beyond. At first, I was very reluctant because I run a lifestyle blog that features products from all kind of brands. In another word, this blog is by no means an example of how to lead a sustainable lifestyle. Then, I thought why not? Part of my job as blogger is to share information and help others.
Many people (myself included) are guilty of amassing piles of clothes, shoes and barely use half of them. As much as I try to buy less and invest in quality pieces, I still have a thing for fast fashion. I have no issue admitting that I am part of the problem. I am willing to take small steps toward changing my buying habits, be part of the solution by investing more and more in plus size ethical fashion brands.
How I plan to be more ethically responsible
“Ethical Fashion is an umbrella term to describe ethical fashion design, production, retail, and purchasing. It covers a range of issues such as working conditions, exploitation, fair trade, sustainable production, the environment, and animal welfare.” via
One of my little sisters is an avid environmentalist. She schools me every time we talk on the phone about things I can do to change my ways. We all know that making huge lifestyle changes overnight isn’t going to be successful. So, I am slowly taking steps toward being more ethically responsible by investing in quality pieces ( buying less) and buy second hand. Here are other things I could do
- Invest in plus size ethical brands ( some options below)
- Learn about the carbon prints of brands I am purchasing from.
- Buy handmade goods, preferably local if not, Etsy is a good place to start.
- Re-wear what I already own ( Check out my 30 items, 30 days post)
Where to buy plus size ethical and eco friendly clothing
The two things I keep hearing over again from people is that plus size ethical brands are two expensive and are not trendy enough. I do share that sentiment to a certain extent. Also, I am aware that not everyone has disposable income to spend on clothing. However we have to remember that the people making the sustainable clothes are paid a fair wage for their work. For brands to be ethically responsible, we have to fight for it, just like we’re fighting for brands to be more inclusive.Without further ado here are some fabulous plus size ethical and eco-friendly clothing brands.
